ECONOMICS

Tyumen region is a complex territorial - economic unit and one of the most stable regions of Russian Federation today.

Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous  District is a basic area of gas industry in Russia though  severe climatic conditions and prevailed provisional population prevail here. Khanty-Mansiysky Autonomous District including middle Priobye - the area of new petroleum cities (Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk) where more than 50 % of the Russian petroleum is extracted. About 90% of the population here are new migrants arrived in 70-80s including ones from the former Soviet republics. South of the region - Tyumen and adjoining areas - is a zone of old settlement, the main ethnic groups here are the Russians and the Siberian Tatars. Economy of the southern part is concentrated basically on  agriculture, however, lately petroleum is extracted here too.

Economic potential of the region makes up interrelation of economics of three units, petroleum, gas, agriculture and mechanical engineering. Mutually beneficial co-operation in development of processing enterprises and enterprises on manufacture of agricultural products is envisaged between districts and the south of Tyumen region.

Tyumen region still holds a leading position in production of industrial products per capita in the Ural Federal District and as a whole in Russian Federation. The contribution of Tyumen manufacturers to overall volume of output of the country has made 9,6 %. Production amounting to 476,4 billion roubles is manufactured for 9 months of 2002 by enterprises. Mechanical engineering, petrochemistry, oil processing steadily works. There is an active development of the Uvat fields. Pipeline transport is developed well, however lately it became a source of numerous failures caused by deterioration of many pipelines and equipment of pump stations with heavy ecological consequences. At present thousands of kilometers of new highways and hundreds of bridges reliably connect the most remote settlements. 36 km of main oil pipelines and 107 km of gas pipelines, 157 km of coated highways, 3 bridges of 188 running metres long are commissioned during the period from January till September, 2002. The region has kept the status of economically stable region and holds one of the leading positions in the country on volumes of timber cutting and sawing, introduction of modern technologies. Production of local timber and woodworking enterprises is known not only at home, but it is in demand in the world market. Today the best samples of goods, wooden articles and products of wood processing bearing Tyumen mark of quality meet the requirements of the world standards.
